Following graduation from Oregon State University with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering, worked 3 years for Hawaiian Dredging & Construction Company, a subsidiary of Dillingham Corporation, the largest construction company in Hawai‘i, involved with projects internationally as well as in the State of Hawai‘i. Assigned to construction projects such as, the Ala Moana Shopping Center, Phase II, the Kuhio Park Terrace, the Sea Life Park, the Kula Waterline and the Pier I. Started a construction and development company, with others, developing subdivisions and apartment buildings. Worked 28 years for the State of Hawai‘i as the Director of Elections, under the Office of the Lieutenant Governor. Worked for 1½ for Global Engineering & Construction, Inc. as a project superintendent on various construction projects at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu. Spent the last 7 years as one of the managing partner in Strategic Solutions, Inc., Partners In Development (a non-profit corporation), Natural Systems, Inc., engaged in a variety of businesses and programs, including, and the administration of Hawaiian-based educational programs, consulting, the marketing and the of installation natural wastewater treatment systems, involvement in the "transfer" of technology from the west to the east (primarily Japan), and from the east to the west, and the administration of other profit other non-profit projects and programs.
