Reverend William Hi‘iakaikapoliopele Kaina
Vice Chairman
Kahu (Reverend) Kaina served as president of the Kamehameha Alumni
Association on Kauai; and was an active member of the Lihue Rotary
Club, the Kauai Ecumenical Chorale, the Kauai Hawaiian Evangelical
Association of Churches, the Kauai Chapter American Red Cross, and the
Kauai Hawaiian Civic Club. On Oahu, he was president of the Association
of Hawaiian Evangelical Churches (AHEC) (1996-2002), was active with
the Bishop Museum Board of Directors, the West Honolulu Rotary Club,
the Liliuokalani Children’s Center Advisory Council, the Hawai‘i State
Chapter of American Red Cross Board of Directors, member of the Pearl
Harbor Hawaiian Civic Club and Chorale Group, Historic Hawai‘i
Foundation, Community Scholarship Committee, Hawai‘i Community
Foundation; he helped to establish the IBEW Local 1357 Scholarship with
which he continues to serve. He also served on the Hawaiian Hymnbook
Committee, 1972 and 1999 editions for the Hawai‘i Conference, United
Church of Christ in which he was recognized as playing a key role in
the coordination of the project as well as carrying out much of the
work.
As an active Rotarian for the past 38 years, he was honored by his Club for 25 years of perfect attendance. He is also a Paul Harris Fellow with Rotary International.
Kahu Kaina was recently called out of retirement to serve temporarily as Papa Makua Kui Kawa of the Hawai‘i Conference United Church of Christ (March 2005 — April 2006). Prior to this position he was senior pastor at Kawaihao Church from 1984 — 1997. He previously served as pastor at the Kaumakapili Church (1980-1984), as Coordinator of Hawaiian Christian Churches in the United Church of Christ Hawai‘i Conference (1971-1980), and as pastor at Moanalua Community Church (1969-1971), Lihue Union Church (1963-1969). He was student pastor at Sullivan Congregational Church in Ohio (1962-1963). Kahu Kaina was ordained into the Christian Ministry by the Maui Tri-Isle Association of Congregational Christian Churches in March, 1957.
Kahu Kaina holds a Master of Theology degree from Oberlin Graduate School of Theology, Oberlin Ohio, a Bachelor of Theology degree from Yankton School of Theology and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yankton College in South Dakota.
Kahu Kaina was installed as Vice Chairman of the Board of Partners in Development on December 10, 2002.
