Faith Based Resource Family Liaison

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of issues specific to the faith based organization population, a positive attitude, ability to adjust and work well in team settings, knowledge, acceptance, willingness and ability to work with  diverse faith based organizations, strong listening skills, effective communication skills, effective public speaking skills, and open to self-reflection in order to improve personal performance. Must complete criminal background check, Child Abuse and Neglect Clearance, and FBI Fingerprinting as required per DHS contract. Must complete traffic and criminal abstracts. Must be able to provide 100K insurability for bodily collision.
 

Primary Purpose

Recruit resource families in faith based ministries for state of Hawaii Department of Human Services. Build support groups (Hui), within church, community groups, and community resource Church Hui to support foster children and families.
 

Essential Duties

Assist prospective resource families/caregiver in the completion of preliminary general resource caregiver/families home licensing criteria. Refer at risk birth families to local support resources, help in finding family placements for children removed from home, work cooperatively with collaborative agencies that license and assist resource families (e.g. Department of Human Services, Hawaii Behavioral Health, Hawaii Foster Parent Association, EPIC Ohana Conferencing), schedule regular presentations with churches and community groups and organizations and assist the Kōkua ‘Ohana team, to build community partnerships of resource family recruitment/ support and retention in the field. Coordinate all follow up meetings with members of faith-based in native Hawaiian communities to organize and develop support groups (Hui). Research, schedule, and canvass at family/ native Hawaiian church/community events.
 

Other Duties

Assist in special Kōkua ‘Ohana community events. Document and provide monthly reports on church and community group meetings, resource families/caregivers, and birth families. Assist in development of Hui curriculum/ training for support groups/ resource families. Write articles for Kōkua ‘Ohana newsletter (every two months). Provide general H.A.N.A.I. training for families who are unable to attend general training sessions offered by existing contracted agencies. Other Duties as Assigned.
 

Work Hours

Weekends and evenings may be required. Advocates shall be available to attend church activities and services that are appropriate as part of Kōkua ‘Ohana’s service activities. 
 

Working Conditions

Main office once per week, work shall be conducted at church events, meeting with church leaders and recruiting church members and recruit in the community.
Inter-island and/or out-of-state travel may be required.
 

Equipment Use

Lap top computer and cellular phone provided. Knowledge of basic computer programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Internet). Must have own car (mileage is reimbursed). 
 

Mental, Physical and Communication Demands

Comfortable giving presentations to large groups, able to work independently and coordinate own schedule, basic computer and organizational skills required, comfortable working with faith based community.
