Primary Purpose

Under the supervision of the Recruitment and Training Coordinator the On-call Part-time Trainer II organizes and conducts HANAI trainings and assists/supports the general license application process. The On-call Part-time Trainer II is an important member of Hawaii’s System of Care and actively participates and fosters collaborative relationships impacting the recruitment, assessment, training, licensing, and ongoing support and retention phases of the process.

Essential Duties

  1. Organizes and conducts pre-service  trainings, adhering to the HANAI curriculum (or other DHS approved curriculum) and standards and guidelines of the Department of Human Services;
  2. Identifies and arranges training sites that are accessible and accommodating to families as needed;
  3. Prepares the “learning” environment so that it is safe, conducive to learning, and comfortable with appropriate refreshments and child care provisions;
  4. Contacts, informs and schedules families for HANAI training;
  5. Identifies, coordinates and works in conjunction with co-trainers and guest speakers;
  6. Prepares and compiles HANAI manuals, and activities as needed;
  7. Provides make-up sessions for families; and
  8. Collects and forwards completed HANAI assessments, feedback, attendance/sign in logs and any other materials to appropriate licensing teams.

Work Hours

Variable. Must be flexible with work schedule, will need to deliver services in the evenings and weekends.

Working Conditions

Job duties will be performed in the community and in consumers’ homes. Work will also be conducted from the employee’s home.

Equipment Use

Must have access to a vehicle, have a valid driver's license, a safe and responsible driving record, and current no-fault auto insurance, with at least the minimum State of Hawaii coverage requirements. Must have access to a computer, printer, internet, e-mail, and phone to conduct business from. Must have basic computer skills, such as use of Word, Excel, email programs, and the internet. Must be able to operate a fax machine, copier, scanner, and other equipment as needed.

Must be able to network in the community effectively; Able to problem analyze and resolve at both a functional and strategic level.  Energetic, forward-thinking and creative with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment and strong operational focus; Possesses excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing. Must be able to relate well and work cooperatively with different ethnic groups and be sensitive to diverse cultures, languages or dialects, financial and educational diversity of the clients and co-workers.  Knowledge of cultural and lifestyles of the island/region.  Ability to interpret issues and concerns within a cultural context and apply cultural concepts in resolutions. Maintains positive personal and phone contacts, projecting open, warm and positive communications (written and oral).

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Social Work or related Human Services field plus over two (2) years experience in foster care/adoptions, the Child Welfare System or the provision of direct services to families and children in human services. Experience in presenting and group facilitation preferred. Must be able to be certified as a HANAI trainer.  Must complete Child Abuse and Neglect clearance, State criminal clearance, and FBI fingerprinting criminal clearance, and subsequently meet DHS standards regarding these clearances. Licensed Social Worker (LSW) in the State of Hawaii strongly preferred.
