Preschool Teacher’s Assistant

Primary Purpose

  1. Assist Preschool Teacher in the designed curriculum for caregivers and keiki;
  2. Interact with caregivers and keiki in a helpful and professional manner.

Essential Duties

  1. Be knowledgeable of the vision and mission of the KP Program and Partners in Development Foundation (PIDF) and consistently work to fulfill them;
  2. Assist Preschool Teacher in planning and providing indoor and outdoor activities that foster learning;
  3. Assist in the set up and break down of preschool sites and events;
  4. May assist in the assessment of participants;
  5. Loading and unloading of the vans; disinfecting and cleaning of materials as needed; prepping preschool materials as needed;
  6. Track and record participant attendance at site.

Other Duties

Other duties as assigned including, but not limited to, completing all forms and documentations such as reports related to grant objectives, conference/in-service evaluations, and daily logs.

Work Hours

6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday; position requires regular and predictable attendance; some events on nights or weekends at various times depending on the event.
Working Conditions    Office, traveling in van, meeting site at shelters or designated area, homeless camps, various event sites and schools.

Equipment Use

Program vans, platform dolly, hand trucks, computer, laptop, laminator, Cricut, copier, shredder, fax machine, video and camera equipment, generator, speaker system, iPod, office elevator, nametag maker, ice machine, stove, refrigerator, microwave, paper cutter, office phones, work cell phones/Bluetooth.

Mental, Physical and Communication Demands

Mental:
  • Be keenly aware of and attentive to program participants
  • Able to cope with stress that may be induced by the situations of our clients.
  • Possess and exercise strong organizational skills  
  • Able to focus on multiple tasks that require analysis and attention to detail.
Physical:
  • Able to participate in strenuous activities including loading/unloading of vans and washing of the vans and mats;
  • Able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds on a regular basis;
  • Able to sit and work on floor;
  • Able to kneel and bend.  
Communication:
  • Exhibit courteous and professional demeanor towards program participants, staff and administration via verbal, written, physical, and electronic correspondence.
  • Good oral and written communication skills required;
  • Able to maintain confidentiality.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

  1. ECE course work and experience working with children 2 years preferred;
  2. Access to a vehicle preferred, have a valid driver’s license, a safe and responsible driving record, and current no-fault auto insurance, with at least the minimum State of Hawai‘i coverage requirements with at least $100,000 in bodily collision;  
  3. Must provide a criminal abstract;
  4. May need to complete CAN clearance and FBI fingerprinting.
