‘Ike Ea teaches at Hawaiian Immersion Schools in Hilo

The ‘Ike Ea Program continued its goal of teaching Engineering and Electronics concepts in two Hawaiian Immersion schools in Hilo on the Big Island. The two-week program started on April 21st to May 1st at Nawahiokalani’opu’u in Keaau and on May 4th to May 15th at Ka ‘Umeke Ka’eo in Keaukaha. Daily hands-on activities such as, popsicle stick bridge building with a 50 lbs. load test, egg drop, circuits and model house wiring, helped reinforce the concepts learned during the lecture part of the course. A total of two classes with 30 students participated in the program. The program culminated with a Family Night at the end of each two-week session. The students were able to showcase the projects and concepts learned during the course of the program. Students were also recognized with their effort with a certificate and goody bags. The ‘Ike Ea Program will have Waiahole Elementary School as the last school for this school year before the summer break.
