Tech Together - (Thu) October 8, 2009
The ‘Ike Ea Program continued its goal of teaching 5th
grade students in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
at two Honolulu schools and most recently on the island of Kauai. The two-week
program started on September 1st to September 16 at Halau Lokahi
Public Charter School and Pauoa Elementary School simultaneously in Honolulu.
And most recently, at Kekaha Elementary School in Kauai from September 21st to October 2nd . Daily hands-on activities such as, popsicle
stick bridge building with a 50 lbs. load test, egg drop, circuits and model
house wiring, helped reinforce the concepts learned during the lecture part of
the course. A total of six 5th Grade classes with 110 students
participated in the program. The program culminated in a family night at each
school. Students were recognized with a certificate of participation and goody
bags. Projects made in class were also showcased during that night and bridges
made at home were load tested as one of the highlights of the night.
