Organizations Collaborate to Bring Community Together
Ka Pa‘alana - (Mon) June 21, 2010
On Friday, June 18, 2010, PIDF’s
Ka Pa‘alana Program collaborated with Wai‘ane Valley Homestead Community
Association (WVHCA) and the Boys & Girls Club of Hawai‘i Wai‘anae Unit for
a ‘Ohana Night at Kaupuni Park located at the Wai‘anae Valley Homestead.
The purpose of the event was to bring the Homestead community together for a night of fun and relaxation, and to share information about what they can do to participate in the goals of the Homestead Community Association: organize, inform, and strengthen pride in their community.
Ka Pa ‘alana provided art, large
motor, and fine motor activities under a tent while the Boys & Girls Club
had their Mobile Tech Van (retrofitted with four work stations & laptops to
accommodate sixteen children) on site for students to do their homework or
other educational activities.
In addition, staff from the Boys & Girls Club did a presentation called TNT (Toward No Tobacco) to educate youth about the dangers of tobacco and smoking cigarettes. Members of the WVHCA closed the event by inviting homestead residents to the association meetings and encouraging adults to register to vote and participate in the upcoming elections.
