Partnerships for Healthy Living
Ka Pa‘alana - (Mon) June 28, 2010
PIDF’s Ka Pa‘alana
outreach program, Mālama Mobile, developed a partnership with nurses to help
families living at Kea‘au Beach receive health information and services.
After being introduced by the Wai‘anae Community Outreach, beginning in January
2010, Pacific Health Ministry (PHM) nurses began providing free monthly blood
pressure screenings and information about healthy foods and preventive measures
to maintain normal blood pressure levels to Kea‘au beach residents during Mālama
Mobile’s food distributions.
In April, State Department of Health nurses combined efforts with PHM. The
Public Health nurses provided information about Staph infections and keeping
keiki free from contagious diseases, and PHM nurses performed free blood
pressure screenings. In May, PHM nurses shared information with families about diabetes,
and in June, did a special activity with Ka Pa‘alana’s preschool families
called "Laughing Yoga" - a song and dance to help keiki learn about
body parts and organs.
