AED Institute and Kamehameha Schools students teach life-saving skills

On Wednesday, November 2, 2011, Chelsea Loui, from the AED institute along with Tim Freitas, a Health Teacher from Kamehameha Schools, and 17 Kamehameha Schools students (11th and 12th graders) taught CPR and the use of AED during Ka Pa‘alana’s parent/adult education class at the Pai‘olu Kaiāulu Shelter in Wai‘anae.   The parents/adults that attended class first watched a video then got down on the floor for actual hands-on training.  Kamehameha Schools students taught attendees how to do CPR on dummies to the beat of the song “Stayin’ Alive.”   Chelsea also brought demo AEDs for the parents/adults to use while Kamehameha Schools students taught them how to properly attach the AEDs to the adult and/or infant dummies.   Suzy Reynolds, Program Coordinator for Kamaile Academy, was also in attendance and was amazed by the amount of parents that participated in the class.
