Baibala Hemolele: The Hawaiian Bible Project travels to Pacific Northwest to hold workshop series

Honolulu, HI—Members of Baibala Hemolele will travel to the states of Oregon and Washington during April 25th—May 2nd, to hold workshops presenting their Hawaiian language preservation project and their Web site Baibala.org . These informative presentations will be given to university student clubs, Hawaiian civic clubs, and Hawaiian and religious interest groups.

Baibala Hemolele is funded by the U.S. Department of Education, which stipulates that the project conduct 120 workshops over the three-year funding period. One quarter of those workshops are required to be held on the mainland, where many Native Hawaiians and Hawaii residents have relocated, and who still keep close ties to the islands.

“We are excited to bring our workshops to people on the mainland,” said Alexa Zen, community relations coordinator. “Because we are dealing with the Internet, we know that Hawaiians and non-Hawaiians alike are accessing Baibala.org . There already have been inquiries about language, culture, religion, technology; we encourage anyone interested to contact us to schedule a workshop.”

To schedule a workshop contact Alexa Zen at azen@pidfoundation.org or (808) 285-4207. Workshops are scheduled based on availability and accessibility. Visit Baibala.org or www.pidfoundation.org for more information.
