Bert Kanoa

 Taro Lo`i Cultivation
 
Bert Kanoa, is a 1986 graduate of Kohala High School.  He proudly served 4 years in the FFA (Future Farmers of America) as Chapter President and Hawaii State Sentinel.  His early project was in Taro cultivation.
He is currently employed by Hilton Grand Vacations Club as Assistant Chief Engineer. Bert is a CLT or Certified Landscape Technician.   His previous employment also includes 10 years with Paniolo Greens as Director of Engineering and supervision of the landscaping grounds division and Supervisor at Landscape Images, Inc. in charge of landscape construction and maintenance crews.
He has been a part time Mentor for the past 4 years, mentoring students in Taro propagation, restoration of a Hawaiian Taro Lo`i, business planning, and marketing of taro products through the Ka Hana No`eau Mentorship Program.
Bert is now in a position of giving back to students of Kohala High & Intermediate through teaching: clearing, planting, harvesting, and replanting taro varieties.  They have learned to make taro products such as taro chips and kulolo, a Hawaiian steamed dessert in an imu, underground steaming oven.
