David B. Fuertes, is a 1995 graduate of Kohala High School and holds a Bachelor's of Science in Agriculture Degree from the University of Hawaii at Hilo majoring in Animal Science and a minor in Plant propagation. He is employed by Shell Vacations LLC as Executive Engineer of the Engineering/Landscaping Depts. at the Paniolo Greens Vacation rental/Condos in Waikoloa for the past 8 years.
He has been a part time Mentor and Project Associate for the past 6 yrs at Laupahoehoe High School and Kohala High & Intermediate Schools under the Na`Oiwi Kane Native Hawaiian Program and Ka Hana No`eau Mentorship Program.
Dave's current Animal Husbandry program has participating students working with Breeding, Caring, and Marketing of Pigs, Cattle, and Chickens.  He has incorporated AI (artificial Insemination) as a breeding method for Swine, taught Cattle care by vaccines, application of medication at branding and constructed a "model"  chicken pen for laying hens used at the KIC Sustainable Garden project.
His previous Native Hawaiian Plant Propagation group teaches students methods in identification of native, invasive and medicinal, and uses of plants.  His instructions also includes how to air layer, propagate by cuttings, plant by seedling, care & maintenance of plants.
