Lehua Akima Matsuda born and raised on the family Akima Farm where they raised pigs and were also vegetable producers supplying such markets as Cal Produce of Kona, Sure Save Supermarkets, KTA super stores, Safeway, etc.  The family business was their lively hood while growing up and attending Kohala High and Elem. School.
Lehua mentors her students at the "model" sustainable garden located at the KIC grounds.  They have planted vegetables such as Okra, Eggplant, Green beans, Cucumbers, Spinach, and Lettuce, etc.  Teaching simple techniques of tilling, fencing, trellis construction, weeding, water system, etc. are the program's agenda.
Previous to Mentoring, Lehua Matsuda, managed a local store, was Food and Beverage Manager at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and Mauna Lani Bay Hotel.
