Swimming PoolMay is over, people! With school programs coming to an end this month, the Youth Mentoring program is gearing up for the onslaught of young’uns at Hope. Several ideas have surfaced as to what would be educational and fun for everyone, and the team is finding out some are doable and some are not. If you recall from our previous issue, the upcoming news topic read “swimming pool!” and would have included an article about how the Youth Mentoring program would be able to use the beautiful swimming pool at Hope Chapel - Kapolei. The thought of Youth Mentoring program children “floating” in a cool, shimmering pool on a hot summer day was mind-boggling and a killer idea that almost happened.

somewhat symbolic of the youth at Ka Pa‘alana, where hope can be given and shared.

With high hopes and crossed fingers, Uncle Sterling and Uncle Mike visited the church in April to inquire how and when the pool could be used. A conversation with church staff resulted in those famous last words being spoken, “We’ll get back to you on that…” Arrgh! We’ve been waiting ever since. They did come back with one offer for us, finally: Thursdays from 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Lovely! One “whole” hour out of the entire week...my, how thankful we should be, yeah? I know I’m being facetious, but Sterling and I were both hoping for a better response, for sure. With that being our only offer, we are looking at other options and even weighing the possibility of doing several “beach days” at White Plains.

We will keep you informed...stay posted!
