Current Resource Families

It is important to the state and to our program that current resource families continue to take care of children in the foster care system. Kōkua ‘Ohana is pleased to offer certain support services for our resource families. You can call our office or your liaison if you are in need of any particular support service. This page provides some information and places to start when looking for resources

FAQs

1.    How do I know what resources are available in my area?

  • Family Programs Hawaii (FPH) has a list  of resources on their website which you can download and print. You can also separate it by your location.
  • Additionally, FPH’s warm line is available to help find resources or give advice during working hours. Call 545-1130 on Oahu or 1-866-545-0882 on Neighbor Islands.

2.    What phone numbers should I keep on hand?

As existing resource caregiver, it is highly recommended that you always carry the following important phone numbers:
  • Social Worker
  • Also the numbers for your social worker’s supervisor and social worker’s assistant
  • Guardian Ad Lidem
  • Child's School
  • Mental health therapist
  • Primary Care Physician
  • Dentist

3.    What services does Kōkua ‘Ohana offer to me after I become a licensed Resource Family?

Once a resource family completes the licensing requirements, their file is turned over to the state. It is then up to the state to officially license the family and to place children in their home. Kökua ‘Ohana does not place children. Even though the state is placing children, Kökua ‘Ohana continues to keep in touch with licensed families. Resource families are welcome to contact their liaison for information about services or with specific questions. Your liaison will be happy to field questions or provide resources as they are available to the program. While we cannot guarantee that we will have the resource or answer you are looking for, it is our pleasure to find it for you if at all possible.

What would you do with an extra $200?

Many of our licensed families are referred to us by current resource caregivers.  The Kōkua Bucks Program is our way of saying Mahalo for finding safe and loving homes for Hawaii's keiki in foster care.
  • For every licensable family you refer, your church or community group could receive $200!
  • Call us today and learn more about foster care and the Kōkua Bucks Program!
