Gary Glenn is Vice President of Partners in Development. As part of his responsibilities he has worked closely on PID environmental and educational programs, including overseeing the Mālama I Ka Āina and Pīkoi Ke Kaula Kualena projects, both of which have focused on culturally-based science and mathematics education for K-12 students. The "Mālama" and "Pīkoi" programs have developed educational and scientific projects using traditional Native Hawaiian wisdom about environmental sustainability and ecological practices on Oahu, Kauai, Maui, and Hawaii. These projects have resulted in new science and mathematics curriculum which is widely used in public schools throughout the state. Mr. Glenn also directed PID's environmental remediation project on the World Environmental Heritage island of Palmyra.
Prior to joining Partners in Development, Mr. Glenn was President and CEO of several major educational foundations and research agencies, including International Higher Education Programs Inc., and the Massachusetts Centers of Excellence Corporation, which funded more than 120 university-corporate "new technology" development projects in the fields of biotechnology, marine science, polymer sciences, and computer technology. Among the universities participating in these collaborations were Harvard University and MIT.
In the future, Mr. Glenn hopes to assist PID in disseminating its unique and successful approaches to other communities and settings.
