Tech Together started its first Hands-On Science and Engineering project on the west coast of O’ahu at Nanakuli Elementary and Kula Kaiapuni O Nanakuli Charter School. A total of 32 students enthusiastically participated in a 2 week course on science and math concepts as stated in the program’s theme: “Ka Pilina – Blending Tradition with Innovation”. The course was highlighted by Chad Durkin, PIDF science specialist, presenting motors and generators, including a bicycle generator powered by the students themselves. A hoike ‘ohana night was held on April 24, 2008 where students were able to display their Illuminated Picture Frames, and demonstrate the simple motors that they constructed in class.
