May 13, 2008 – Tech Together Program, shown as one of Nanakuli Elementary’s “best school project”, in the 2008 State of Hawaii Department of Education Mega Trend Showcase: “Where Technology Comes to Life”.

The showcase featured school projects from the Nanakuli/Pearl City/Waipahu Complex Area. Students from Nanakuli Elementary sixth grade class F201 and Kula Kaiapuni O Nanakuli P5 presented an I-movie and photo presentation of the Tech Together Hands-On Science and Engineering Program they completed April 7-19, 2008 with TT staff Natalie Oana-Russo, Melanie Ramsey and Chad Durkin. Students discussed their TT projects they worked on and the slide show they created about them. Some student reflections were: Branielle Young-Velarde – “….we learned about magnetism, electricity and atoms we saw the invisible force around the magnets that you could never see. A very interesting thing is the facts that Iolani Palace was the very first palace to have electricity and King Kalakaua met Thomas Edison…..”; Aaron Hoapili – “…the experiment I did was to strip the end of the wires to connect it to the protoboard to make the LED light up. I learned to try different options to make the LED light up….”. The overall showcase was a success as stated by teacher Ms. McIntosh, “The parents and DOE staff were amazed by the student projects.”
