“Tutu Qi and Me,” it is a Five-Animal Exercise Program developed by GrandMaster Hong Lui dating back to Eastern methodology of 2,000 years. In collaboration with PID and the Qi Gong Center, this Five-Animal Exercise program was born—“Tutu Qi and Me” as a commitment to PID’s revival of Hawaiian health and well being practices supplementing western medicine.
The Five-Animal Form seeks to balance the energies of life force (Qi in Chinese, mana in Hawaiian, ki in Japanese) of the body’s internal organs. While mimicking each animal with their individual sounds and movements, one assumes the characteristics of the animal. These sounds and movements will stiumulate energy to target specific organ channels. The greater the degree the Tutu and keiki can imitate the animals, the more benefit their internal organs and overall health will increase. The animals represented in this program are: tiger (Kika), monkey (Keko), bear (Pea), bird (Manu), and deer (Kia) and the organs that each animal sound energizes are the liver, heart, stomach, lungs, and kidneys, respectively and collectively.
The program presents music, visual, physical activity, bonding, mental and ethical training—and fun! And, greater still, families can do this all together.
A song was written by Jimmy Kekina especially for this exercise program and produced by Henry Kapono. The CD has three parts: instrumental, English, and Hawaiian. Each Tutu family happily received a complimentary CD and program booklet along with a demonstration and instructional session with exercise instructor, Pua Meyer. Translation in Japanese has begun so we can begin to share our program abroad.
